IS THE Commission on Elections beholden to Malacañang such that its neutrality and impartiality have been put under a cloud of doubt? Its swift ruling against Sen. Grace Poe in the disqualification case filed to stop her presidential run in May is one classic example that seems to show that the Comelec is indeed biased in favor of Malacañang.
As a poll body, the Comelec should break away from the whims and caprices of the executive branch. Pressures and intimidation from political groups or parties should be disregarded by its members. Or else the people’s trust and confidence in the poll body will only continue to erode until every decision it makes in the future will always be under question.
