The Supreme Court finally put closure to the case of First Class Cadet Aldrin Cudia, denying his appeal for him to be able to get his transcript of records/diploma from the Philippine Military Academy, so he could enroll at the UP College of Law. This, after failing to graduate as salutatorian of his class due to some perceived offense he committed against the school’s honor code, which forbids, among others acts, lying (and in the case of Cudia, it was simply not being able to tell correctly why he was late in class for two minutes).
This decision of the Supreme Court came as a shock. How the highest court in the land could be so unfeeling, unsympathetic to the plight of a young man whose only desire is to move on. If the PMA officers were not able to act fairly on Cudia’s plight, how could have the Supreme Court followed suit and commit the same act of injustice? Denying the man’s simple petition was denying him to have a new lease in life. How grave was his sin of lying that he would be treated like a criminal?
I hope President Aquino could give Cudia the consideration he needs. If the Supreme Court closed its door to this man, maybe there is a chance that P-Noy will open his and not lose this one big chance to show the more humane side of his “daang matuwid.”
