Miriam, Bongbong strange bedfellows

The entry of feisty Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago into the 2016 presidential race is a welcome development and augurs well for our country and people.

Although her team-up with Sen. Bongbong Marcos, a vice presidential candidate, was totally unexpected and is quite controversial, her chances of winning the presidency remain intact. Their tandem could even spell the difference in Philippine politics, where revenge, backbiting, name-calling and the like are “the order of the day.”

In Philippine politics anything or everything can happen for political convenience and survival. Enemies before are friends today and friends in the yesteryear are enemies today.

Is genuine reconciliation forthcoming with the union of these two strange bedfellows?

Only time can tell.
