A social justice tool
BEING A self-employed farmer and a Social Security System pensioner receiving a measly sum of P1,500 monthly, I fully support the proposal of Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares and SSS pensioner Eduardo Alicias Jr. to add another P2,000 to our present monthly pension.
I am one with Colmenares that “an increase in pension is not only a social justice tool but also an economic tool because improving the spending capacity of the elderly impacts economic activity.”
On the other hand, I categorically agree with Alicias that “The reason d’etre of the SSS is not to exist sans institutional problems, but rather to ensure that, say, its old pensioners be given their just deserts.”
