Broadway star Lea Salonga’s tweet about “AlDub” was totally relevant: “Okay lang sa akin ang kababawan, pero hanggang doon na lamang ba tayo?” She spoke the truth. She had nothing to apologize for.
Show-biz clown Joey de Leon of TV’s “Eat Bulaga,” the progenitor of “AlDub,” reacted with his own brand of sarcasm: “Mga tao sa labas at nagsasaya, huwag mong ihusga kung nasa lungga ka (sic).”
This is really the problem with our masses. They are too shallow to be concerned with any serious issues. As the next national elections draw near, we should be worried about the prospect of crooks and charlatans once again lording it over the country. But do they care?
No wonder comedian Tito Sotto (one of “Eat Bulaga’s” triumvirate, with De Leon and Vic Sotto) topped the latest surveys in the senatorial race! There is no doubt he has already booked “AlDub” (Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, aka Yaya Dub) to do all kinds of song and dance nonsense, not to mention that “pabebe” idiocy, for his political party’s rallies!
Salonga was right: Is that (kababawan) what this benighted country is really all about?
