Presidential candidate Manuel Roxas II can “kill” two birds with one stone, if he adopts Kris Aquino to be his running mate. Kris’ overwhelming popularity can “kill” the so-called popularity of Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sen. Grace Poe.
Kris perfectly fits to be Mar’s right hand at the helm of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. She can be the best campaigner for Mar for the presidency, surely touching all hearts, including her relatives. The President cannot be accused of establishing a political dynasty as his term expires in 2016.
All incumbent government officials belonging to the Liberal Party (be they national or local officials) and the leaders of the party, should toe the line and campaign for their candidates. What is the President in power for? He should crack his whip on LP members.
Going to naught is President Aquino’s program on “daang matuwid” if his anointed and trusted candidate will lose; then unbridled corruption will reign anew; and the people will remain mired in poverty.
Tested competence, tested track record, and tested honesty and integrity should prevail in the coming elections. In the discussion between Jesus Christ and his 12 apostles on who is the “first” and “greatest of all,” Christ’s “servanthood lesson”—“…. whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave (servant)… and give his life a ransom for many” (Mat. 20:27-28)—calls for service and humility (not intellectual arrogance), and integrity.
