MAY I thank Ceres Doyo for her latest article on the Iglesia ni Cristo (‘Tiwalag,’ Opinion, 8/6/15). I think it was well-written and fair. What I would want to point out though is that during the time of Bro. Eraño Manalo and Bro. Felix Manalo, members were not easily expelled. Before an expulsion could be decreed, there was due process and a lengthy investigation would be made (about two to three years).
And members were not expelled for asking questions. We had this system called “ulat” wherein one can report any member (whether they are high-ranking ministers or just regular members) to the district minister or directly to the executive minister, after which an investigation would be conducted.
The ulat, unfortunately, has completely broken down. Letters are filtered and only the happy ones reach the executive minister nowadays. Some ministers who have reported the corruption have themselves been expelled, and this is the reason INC members feel compelled to air their grievances in media (both social and traditional).
To be honest, the situation is simple but not easy to address. The current executive minister needs to stop living in a bubble and should be man enough to change his team of advisers.
