Discount on elderly’s power consumption

/ 12:02 AM August 07, 2015

I wonder if elderly electric consumers are accorded by all electric cooperatives in the country the 20-percent discount mandated by Republic Act No. 9257 (Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003). I, for one, can’t remember ever being given a 20-percent discount on my power consumption.

If I remember right, upon the implementation of RA 9257, all elderly electric consumers in Camarines Norte or throughout the country, for that matter, were required to accomplish a form so they could enjoy the 20-percent discount. Obviously, since then, there has never been any discount granted me.

Along this line, and with due respect to election lawyer Romulo Macalintal, who explained during the 71st Supreme Council meeting held Nov. 15-16, 2014, at the Veterans Center, Taguig City, the rights of senior citizens in relation to the 20-percent discount mandated by RA 9257, may I ask him about what we senior citizens can do on the matter.
