‘Carpe diem!’ P-Noy told

YOUR EDITORIAL “But why not now?” (Inquirer, 7/21/11) truly captures the essence of what the sizzling developments of the current season are all about. One feels that we are on the cusp of something monumental. For once, we suspend our cynicism and disbelief to give way to what we perceive as the possible emergence of the truth.

The past few months have arguably not been too rosy for President Aquino and his Cabinet. Still we fully agree with the contention that “the first year of the Aquino presidency had its share of hits and misses, but the continuing high popularity of President Aquino must be due to the perception that he remains resolutely committed to the anti-corruption mandate that swept him to office.”

Indeed, despite the travails and pitfalls the Aquino administration has been experiencing thus far, it’s still on the right track. And the recent convergence of events and personalities may well lead to some major breakthroughs. As the Roman poet Horace wrote centuries ago, “Carpe diem!” Seize the day! Seize the moment! We hope and pray that the Aquino administration will do just that.
