Santiago reiterates reply on committee hearings

THIS REFERS to Carlos Tan’s letter titled “‘More sound and fury’ from Miriam recalled” (Opinion, 6/17/15).

This seems to be a reiteration of a recent letter (“Lady Miriam draws ‘guns’ vs road kings,” Opinion, 6/5/15) that we have already responded to (“Assigned committees sked bill hearings,” Opinion, 6/12/15).

Senate Bill No. 1844 or “An Act Penalizing the Appropriation, Encroachment, Registration and Titling of Creeks, Esteros, Streams, Canals, River Banks and Other Public Waterways” was referred to the Senate committee on environment and natural resources in 2013. It is therefore this Senate committee’s discretion when to schedule the hearings for this bill.

Tan should understand and be reminded that Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago has lung cancer, stage 4. Yet, despite this, she remains adamant in pushing for the passage of her bills by regularly following up on the Senate committees to which her bills are referred.
