Strike staged not by Tanduay employees

01:50 AM June 06, 2015

We refer to the news titled “Violence erupts as Tanduay workers go on strike” (Inquirer.net, 5/19/15).

We wish to correct some erroneous information in that article:

  1. There was no legitimate strike at the Cabuyao plant of Tanduay Distillers Inc. (Tanduay) because Tanggulan Ugnayang Daluyang Lakas ng Anakpawis sa Tanduay Distillers Inc. (Tudla) is not certified as the bargaining representative of the rank and file employees of the Tanduay Cabuyao plant.
  2. No employee of Tanduay or of its recognized labor union was involved in that incident of May 18, 2015.
  3. Tudla is a workers association and its members are not employees of Tanduay. Rather, they are member-owners of the duly-registered cooperatives HD Manpower Service Cooperative and Global Skills Providers Multipurpose Cooperative which are among the service contractors of Tanduay. That Tudla is not a union of Tanduay employees had been clarified earlier with Inquirer reporter Maricar Cinco.
