Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago has once again come out with guns blazing, this time around against the “kings of the road” or, more aptly, mga pasaway na jeepney drivers who have no respect for traffic laws (Metro, 5/25/15). What she is proposing is really good, but personally, I am not pinning any hope on it.
Recall that she also spoke about having filed the “anti-epal” bill which would penalize shameless politicians who advertise their names and faces on, or grab credit for, public works built with public funds as if these were their personal projects. I was kind of hoping the vociferous senator would push through with that proposal as it was long overdue. But nothing was heard from her again after receiving so much publicity for her rhetorical exercise.
So much has come out of her mouth—“all sound and fury, signifying nothing.” The way I see it, she is no less an “epalist” than the rotten politicians she has denounced.
