Should it really be named ‘Bangsamoro’ Basic Law?

I am sort of confused with the manner the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law has been titled. Methinks, the use of the word “Bangsamoro” may be a misnomer. We all know from grade school that “bansa” is the Filipino word for the English’s “country.” Why then should we call the proposed law Bangsamoro? How can it be a bansa in a country called Philippines?

We should reconsider the use of Bangsamoro in naming the proposed law. And this sentiment may very well be shared by the non-Moros in Mindanao. After all, Moros or Muslims, they are not the only inhabitants of Mindanao.

It may be logical, therefore, if we think of another name to replace Bangsamoro in the bill. It could be “Mindanaons,” whatever. As long as this does not imply exclusiveness for our Moro or Muslim brothers and sisters.
