In “Duterte’s statement self-serving, frightening,” (Opinion, 2/27/15) Carlos Isles said that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s statement, which was quoted in “Duterte warns of civil war,” (Across the Nation, 2/20/15), was “self-serving and frightening.”
Yes, I agree with Isles: The statement was frightening to criminals, drug lords, drug pushers, corrupt officials and insurgents. He is definitely feared by lawbreakers. It was self-serving because he made Davao City crime-free, drug-free, insurgency-free, corruption-free and poverty-free.
The good people of Davao City love and respect Duterte because with him as mayor they feel safe and secure at all times. They can freely move around the city without fear of being harmed, kidnapped or killed or robbed, or of becoming a snatcher’s victim.
Mayor Duterte is not a dictator by any standard. He has been elected freely by the good people of Davao City. He only enforces laws and ordinances to the letter and spirit to make sure that the lives, properties and liberties of the people of Davao City are protected, not endangered or violated. He puts order on every inch of the city. By all means, he protects the peace-loving people of Davao City, and definitely, not the criminals. He throws the “bad eggs” and “bad bananas” to the trash bins so that the “good eggs” and “good bananas” don’t get infected by a virus.
If Isles prefers a country that is messy, chaotic and disorderly, where discipline is unknown, he can choose to live in Iraq and Syria.
