DPWH is wasting taxpayer money on paving good roads
This is in reaction to Chester Chang’s letter titled “‘Robbery’ on QC road” (Opinion, 3/2/15).
I share Chang’s feelings. And it is not the first time the Department of Public Works and Highways has done it. I still remember Roxas Boulevard’s asphalt top replaced with a cement layer, even though the asphalt was still in good condition. And to think that this practice is not isolated in Metro Manila but is as common in many other parts of the country. I cannot imagine how much of the people’s money is being wasted in such practice. Why can’t they asphalt-pave or concrete-pave only the bad roads or those in a state of disrepair?
On the other hand, I cannot understand why a stretch along Taft Avenue—from P. Ocampo Sreet (formerly Vito Cruz) to Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue (formerly Buendia)—cannot be widened like the stretch in front of De La Salle University. I noticed that the latter stretch consists of four lanes while the former has two lanes only. My question is why can’t the DPWH do the necessary widening so as to decongest traffic on the P. Ocampo-Sen. Gil Puyat stretch of Taft?
