Special ‘for wives only’ day

I have been thinking lately of proposing a special day for “wives only.” It would be known as Wife’s Day or National Wife Appreciation Day, similar to what other countries are observing. As such, faithful husbands would remember and treat their wives kindly not only on Valentine’s Day but more so on Wife’s Day.

I have been married for 25 years to my beautiful and chinky-eyed wife Lalaine. Just like any other couple, our marriage has not been always rosy. But I am proud to say that our marriage has been nurtured by many trials and ordeals challenging our commitment to remain faithful to each other. More importantly, our marriage has been nursed within the boundaries of marital fidelity.

I am sure many husbands are proud of their wives. I’ve heard common stories about wives painstakingly preparing first the needs of their husbands before reporting to their offices—from cooking meals to washing dishes, to polishing the shoes and tying the neckties of their husbands. Wives do all these tasks aside from attending to the needs of their children. Theirs indeed is a thankless job but done cheerfully without any whining.

We owe it to our wives that we designate a day of the year during which we extend to them extra special attention, in recognition and appreciation of all their heroic and selfless deeds for the husband and family.
