‘Royal wedding.’ Really? Ridiculous

/ 12:02 AM February 03, 2015

It’s ridiculous to see the bride wearing a crown or “tiara” on her pretty head. Indeed, Marian Rivera is a beauty to behold, yes, but wearing such a thing on her head? I understand that this only befits people of “royal” blood lineage unless, of course, Marian and Dingdong Dantes, however popular they may be, are.

Yes, I agree with Ceres Doyo. The wedding was reminiscence of Imelda Marcos’ penchant to use “the good, the true, and the beautiful” mantra to justify “all that glamour and glitter” (“9 bishops falling all over themselves at ‘royal wedding’,” Opinion, 1/8/15).

On the other hand, though I am not a legal expert, I agree with the lawyer referred by Doyo that the couple could be “faulted” under the Philippine Civil Code (Article 25, Chapter 2) for blatantly displaying wealth and grandeur amid times of want and devastation caused by recent calamities.

GMA 7’s “Kayo ang Aming Puso” or “Kapuso” comes into question because of the ignominious media coverage of that insensitive and heartless flaunting of wealth. And yes, the nine bishops who were present at the wedding?
