Brazen, shameful justice system
Stephen Monsanto failed to see any “basis for comparison” between the justice system in this country and that in South Korea (“Chew on this food for reflection imported from South Korea,” Opinion, 1/3/15). Actually there is one, except that it is totally odious! South Korea’s is one of the best; ours one of the worst!
That neighboring country boasts of a national pride in its ability to enforce discipline and respect for the law; ours seems content to wallow in the distinction of having its laws flouted at every turn. Consider what has just been exposed lately: Scumbags already serving life sentences for drug-related offenses at the New Bilibid Prison (under maximum security pa, kuno) still freely and blatantly engaged in the same criminal activities that put them there in the first place! The prison guards simply looked the other way, obviously for hundreds of thousands of reasons.
Other countries notorious for protecting drug cartels at least have the “decency” to let their drug-crazed convicts “escape” first before resuming their business. Here, we don’t bother with such niceties—garapalan na talaga! So, seriously, which justice system in the entire world can beat that kind of rottenness?
