Isis in PH real possibility

/ 12:01 AM December 24, 2014

The terrorist organization Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (Isis) may not have established its presence in the country yet, but we must be ready to foil whatever evil designs, violent or not, that its “adherents and recruiters” may be plotting to accomplish here. Our government should heed this piece of advice from a United Nations official. Isis is a serious threat to any democratic country, it should not be given any leeway to wage terror in any form here. Isis members are brutal killers who are ready to die, as well, for the Isis cause.

We are aware that Filipinos in Mindanao and other parts of the country might want to volunteer as Isis fighters. But others may just be lured to join the terrorist group by monetary offers that may be too inviting to both the deprived and the greedy.

The possibility of Isis recruiters entering our country is not remote; the government, civil society and legislators must work hand-in-hand to prevent this scourge from reaching our shores.

We thank the UN official for his concern, and of all other individuals and groups in peace-loving countries who have joined the fight against Isis.
