‘Best Acting’ awards for Trillanes and Cayetano

/ 03:34 AM December 03, 2014

May I congratulate Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Alan Peter Cayetano for winning the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards for their performance in the movie “Moro-moro sa Senado.”

I voted for Senator Cayetano, thinking that he would make the difference in the Senate and that he wasn’t a “trapo,” but I’m now frustrated. He is no different from the other senators. He did well during the Corona impeachment trial. But I’m not satisfied with the way he acted in the hearings on the alleged corrupt practices of Vice President Jejomar Binay. Why doesn’t he just leave that to the court and do something for the good of his constituents instead?

I like Cayetano’s commercial, but it has no originality. Half of it looks like Vice President Binay’s style (“Ganito kami sa Makati”) and the other half sounds like a line from President Aquino who dislikes corruption.

Just don’t get angry, Senator. Also it seems that you are in a hurry to become president. As they say, “Huwag kang tumakbo ng matulin—sigurado kang matatalo” (Don’t run so fast—you’re sure to lose). Prove your worth first. I’m sure you paid a lot for the commercial. Would that you gave part of it instead to the evacuees affected by the eruption of Mt. Mayon.

FEATURED STORIES

In the case of Senator Trillanes, I voted for him not because of his guts but because he is a Bicolano. I’m disappointed with him, too. I watched his actions at the Senate inquiry into the alleged Binay corruption. They’ve become nauseating. He seemed to be acting more like a judge. Why doesnít he just leave the determination of guilt to the courts, or the Ombudsman? He behaved like he was an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation, especially when he went visiting the alleged “Binay farm” in Batangas. Doesn’t he know he made himself a laughingstock out there? He should do his homework in the Senate.

Ask any Grade IV pupil what the branches of the government are, and he’ll readily tell you: the executive, the judiciary and the legislative. To which branch do the senators belong? To be sure, Cayetano and Trillanes know the answer.

I am a retired public school official and I represent the retired public school educators of Daraga, Albay. We don’t receive an annual bonus. All we get is a cash gift of P10,000 regardless of the amount of our pension. My monthly pension is P15,000. I get only a P10,000-cash gift. How I wish they had given more attention to this matter.

I am volunteering to give both Senators Cayetano and Trillanes a one-on-one seminar/workshop (for free) on the following topics: work ethics, time management, legislative agenda, values education, public governance.

I am dreaming of a better Philippines treading the “matuwid na daan.” It seems that this dream will never come true. At age 71, I count myself among those in the “pre-departure area.” But children tell me that I should be positive and still hope for the best. I agree.
