Under Duterte, Davao City impresses but for hotels

This pertains to Antonio Montalvan’s Nov. 3 column titled “Is the Philippines ready for Duterte in 2016?”

I wish to add that as a frequent traveler to the Visayas and Mindanao for the last four years, it is only at the Davao City airport where a visitor can take a taxi with the meter automatically switched on upon riding; in all the other cities, taxi drivers charge a fixed rate. And the photo of the driver is hung at the back of the driver’s seat. And when you are seated in front, it is placed in front of you. To report abusive drivers, you can call a number indicated inside the taxi.

The only negative thing I experienced in Davao City is that most hotels will show two room rates: one supposedly the promo rate; the other, the standard rate. If you are a senior citizen like me, they will give the 20-percent discount based on the standard rate. If you compare the discounted standard rate with the promo rate, the promo rate is cheaper.

I really wish that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will consider running for president. He is the only politician with a political will. May God enlighten him for the good of our country.
