‘Idiotic plug’ removed

/ 01:14 AM October 24, 2014

I remember a letter published in this paper last June 13 about an “atrocity” the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) foisted on moviegoers. It was about a plug to educate the public regarding its movie classification, depicting a family of “idiots” to drive home the point. To say the least, it was extremely insulting to the intelligence of ordinary Filipino families. By no means are Filipino families that dumb!

Despite responses from some who maintained it was very useful (speaking for themselves!), we are so glad the MTRCB finally decided to yank out that ill-conceived plug. We thank the public officials concerned for coming to their senses and sparing us from that insufferable annoyance.

Now we are satisfied to see only a brief statement about the classification of the movie we are watching—without squirming about the waste of time and public funds that went into the making of that idiotic plug. And we thought nobody cares to read “letters to the editor”! Thanks for publishing that letter.
