‘Ill-motivated’ inquiry
Why it is only now that there is a move, led by Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas Jr., to conduct an investigation into alleged questionable disbursements of the Judiciary Development Fund (JDF)? Clearly, this move is merely in retaliation against the Supreme Court’s decision declaring the Disbursement Acceleration Program unconstitutional.
When Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno sent a letter to Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. explaining why she considered it still premature for any member of the Supreme Court to appear in the hearing of the House committee on justice, which purportedly was investigating the expenses of the Supreme Court, she did the right and proper thing because the action of Representative Tupas was obviously suspicious and ill-motivated. It is hoped that in the interest of justice and fair play, our elected officials like Representative Tupas will always perform their official duties in utmost good faith.
