The ongoing construction of Torre de Manila (Metro, 8/6/14) that critics said would ruin the sightline of the Rizal Monument is now in the “eye of the storm.”
Sen. Pia Cayetano was on the right track with her proposal to look into whether the Torre de Manila project had violated any regulation and to see whether new laws are needed to allow the national government to have a say in the local projects affecting heritage sites.
Controversial projects such as this one would never happen or materialize if only our local government officials had in mind the legacy of Jose Rizal, first and foremost, before personal or city interest.
