Neither Air21 nor Airfreight 2100 is FedEx’s contractor

12:02 AM August 09, 2014

We write with respect to Miguel R. Camus’ news article titled “Air21 group plans public offering within 2 years” (Business, 5/12/14). The report stated that “The Lina Group is mulling over a P2-billion to P5-billion initial public offering (IPO) in two years for its logistics business, which includes flagship company Air21, the exclusive licensee of American international courier service FedEx Corp., according to its chair.”

Contrary to what the article suggested, Air21 is not a “licensee” of, or is otherwise connected with, FedEx. While it is true that Airfreight 2100 (not Air21) used to be FedEx’s Global Services Program contractor in the Philippines, that relationship expired in 2012.  In October 2012, a FedEx subsidiary, Federal Express Pacific Inc., entered into another contract with Airfreight 2100, but the contract likewise expired in October 2013. Since then, we have not appointed Airfreight 2100 or Air21 as a “licensee” or contractor.

Thank you for the clarification. The information on Air21/Airfreight 2100 was based on their website.

Also, I referenced Air21 in the article because this was more recognizable to readers, instead of its official corporate identity. In any case, I apologize for the error. Thank you again for the information.
