Still unquestionable motives
This is in reaction to Asuncion David Maramba’s article titled “This time, beware of snowballing.” I am glad it appeared on July 25. It needed to be said.
We truly are our worst enemies. Maramba’s article aptly warns of the risk of eradicating all strides that have been made toward normalcy in the last four years—the risk being poised by different people and groups—from those who are recklessly filing impeachment charges against President Aquino, to President Aquino who has allowed himself to be piqued to the extent that he is losing track of his goal.
The critics are great at tearing down achievements, yet offer no solutions, or support when solutions are found. All are acting to advance their own narrow interests, even if only to hear their voices broadcasted.

The decision appears to be correct and reasonable in that it does not require the past to be undone. However, the ponente’s additional comment on liability was unnecessary, unfortunate and unwise. All it did was fed the “crabs” with the dessert they sought to pull the President down. Having written the decision proper, the ponente should have let it be.
Let us remember that President Aquino was a reluctant candidate and has made it very clear that he leaves the presidency when his term ends—clear indications that his motives remain unquestionable. The current developments will more than ever result in no honest person willing to join government; and the only ones who are will be joining for themselves.
With President Aquino’s first four years being relatively successful, the best the Filipino people can do is to support him in continuing to steer the nation, tempered by the Supreme Court’s decision.
