MTRCB’s plug useful for public

This is in reaction to the letter on the “annoying” MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board) film ad (“An atrocity that MTRCB should spare moviegoers,” Opinion, 6/13/14).

Contrary to the writer’s view, we highly appreciate the MTRCB’s plug regarding its classification of movies.  It’s high time we had responsible people in the regulatory board who take to heart their duty to make the public, young and old, aware of the type of movies they watch.

The film ad of the MTRCB is definitely not “the best that it could do to prove its usefulness or relevance”! In addition to its professional handling of recent TV network violations, the MTRCB also acted promptly and with élan on the recent ABS-CBN “Pinoy Big Brother’s” indecent portrayal of people in the nude asked (or forced?) to pose supposedly for a painting.

It could only be with the best intention that the MTRCB looks up “on the average Filipino family” by undertaking such a laudable public information dissemination move to help moviegoers and parents exercise their freedom to guide themselves and children on what is decent, wholesome and appropriate.

What may be obvious to some may not be so for others. Considering human nature, there is a need for constant reminders of what is good or bad. And it is to the best public interest of all that the MTRCB has undertaken such a noble and refreshing initiative—to advise everyone, without discrimination, about the movies they are about to watch.
