Ruling class is oversolicitous when it comes to its own

Why is it that when the accused belongs to its ranks, the ruling class instantly displays an oversolicitous bleeding heart? Why does it fuss over influential people who are more “high-maintenance” than high-risk, like elderly accused are?

Are the other hundreds of ordinary elderly and sick detainees, poor and out of the loop, less human and deserving, such that the authorities twiddle their thumbs like imperious lords when it comes to the way they should be treated? Who then is cruel, degrading and inhuman?
