I would like to call the attention of the concerned public officials and agencies (Department of Public Works and Highways, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) to the dangerous narrow pathway at the corner of East Avenue and NIA Road (at the side of the Land Registration Authority) in Quezon City. I say “dangerous” because the pathway does not have a railing that could protect a person from falling down the grimy ditch some 10 feet below.
I noticed it on July 4, Monday evening, as I was walking home along East Avenue after jogging at the Quezon Memorial Circle. When I went back there the following afternoon to take pictures of it (which I posted on my Facebook wall), I realized all the more that it is indeed a serious cause for concern.
The area can be very busy as it is just a short distance away from the entrance of the always-crowded National Statistics Office. Consider also how slippery the pavement can get when it rains. And not only is it made narrower by the wide, circular tree planted in the middle of it, a sidewalk vendor occupies that portion of the pathway, too, affecting the pedestrians’ movement. Here’s hoping that immediate action is taken regarding this matter to avoid untoward incidents.
