Naia is MIAA’s responsibility

This has reference to lawyer Rex G. Rico’s letter regarding the “Unbearable heat at Naia 2” (Opinion, 6/2/14).

We wish to clarify that the upgrade and maintenance of the facilities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) fall under the sole responsibility of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), not of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

Republic Act No. 9497, which created the CAAP, gave the agency jurisdiction over 81 national airports, which do not include the four Naia terminals, Subic Bay International Airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport and Clark International Airport.
