After his lost bid for the Senate, former representative Teddy Casiño of Bayan Muna was not heard from as much as he was before. People wonder why he has not been vocal about his advocacies, and he has been silent even on some issues.
It was a surprise, therefore, to see him resurface in the company of militant activists who were protesting the holding of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia in Makati City. With them was Bagong Alyansang Makabayan secretary-general Renato Reyes, who ranted that the WEF is a farce because the poor are poorer and are even getting hungrier. They held the rally near the conference site.
Credit Casiño and Reyes with some good intentions but their rally was uncalled for, ill-timed and out of place. The WEF was an important gathering and the visitors came here for something productive, in particular to help in the development of Asian economies, including ours. They were well-respected leaders.
Casiño’s militants should have held their rally a little farther from the venue. And although nothing untoward happened, what they did was an illegal assembly as they had no permit for their rally.
Why is it that when there are activities beneficial to our country, militants spring to life, shouting out their disagreement? Aren’t they tired of pulling our country down?
