‘Astonishing’ deception
The Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (Edca) is an “astonishing” piece of deception. Cunning use of statecraft and diplomatic manipulation were obvious in its making. Noticeably, it was crafted amid political confusion: The Philippines was reeling from natural calamities, political scandals and external threat while the agreement was being negotiated; in its proposed form, the Edca was never fully discussed by the people; on the contrary, it was cobbled together in utmost secrecy. The sinister intent to deceive the people was very apparent.
It’s proper to ask ourselves: Who manipulated the “environment of confusion” while the agreement was being negotiated? If the people do not know the nature of the agreement, who would be benefited? Definitely, the United States. More so that the agreement has been approved without the people fully knowing what it is.
The people threw out and do not allow US military bases in the Philippines. Now, through the Edca, the United States will be using the resources and entire territories of the country for free. This explains why the environment of confusion was created in order that the agreement would push through under the cover of scandals, calamities and threat. The people are again being deceived.
