Muggers are on the loose and on the rise in Makati City, reputed to be the business capital of the Philippines.
Day and night, these underground characters prey on and victimize not only office workers and students but ordinary citizens as well.
The unlit portions of Gil Puyat Avenue, from Mayapis to Edsa, and of Osmeña Highway from De la Rosa Street to Arnaiz Avenue and Chino Roces Avenue are their base of operation.
The mayor of Makati and the local unit of the Philippine National Police should take a closer look at this situation. The presence of mobile cars and foot patrols especially at nighttime could be a major deterrent to the wave of muggings in the city of Makati.
