Urgent rehabilitation of Manila’s Baywalk needed

Whatever happened to the much-touted and much-trumpeted Baywalk “makeover” plan of the Department of Tourism and the Department of Public Works and Highways along the famed Roxas Boulevard in Manila?

One of Manila’s top tourist attractions, Baywalk is now a haven of ambulant vendors, homeless families, street urchins, prostitutes, etc. It is no longer safe for promenaders wanting to stroll there on weekends and savor the magnificent view it offers of the scenic Manila Bay sunset.

Concerned agencies should act fast and rehabilitate the Baywalk promenade in time for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting next year, which will be attended by world leaders.
