Third sex a boon as Army soldiers

01:43 AM April 21, 2014

The Philippine Army is recruiting young men and women to fill its need for 400 officers and 2,700 soldiers. Those belonging to the third sex are as welcome. The Army believes they are normal human beings and can perform well as soldiers, especially in dealing with communities, doing other functions other than fighting insurgents, secessionists and criminals.

The Army should be commended for this decision to reject discrimination against homosexuals and lesbians. Of course, they are expected to observe proper military decorum as members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and they should not bring dishonor to the Philippine Army.
