Southway College denies ‘worst’ tag

/ 01:07 AM April 04, 2014

This is in reaction to the article titled “‘Worst’ teacher schools named, closure urged” by Dona Z. Pazzibugan, published in the Inquirer last March 19. The article cited our school as one of the 10 “worse or worst-performing,” as reported “for their consistent low passing rate in the biannual Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).”

We believe that there must be an error in the report for which we demand correction because Southway College of Technology, since its establishment, did not offer education and education-related courses or those that need the LET.

Our records will show that we have been a producer of licensed criminologists and nurses—two of the courses that our school offers which require licensure exam.

Contrary to the report, we can be contacted in the following telefax numbers: (085)8394476/ 8391170, and email address [email protected], all available in www.socotech.edu.ph that can easily be searched on the Internet. This misinformation could have been validated and eventually avoided.

And since the cited report has caused much damage to our very valued name, we reiterate our demand for correction at the soonest possible time.

The Philippine Business for Education has explained the “limitation” of the LET data on the examinees’ school (https://opinion.inquirer.net/73110/dumaguete-college-still-in-operation).

According to their analysis of LET results in the last five years, three graduates of Southway

College of Technology took up the LET-elementary in September 2012, March 2013 and September 2013, and they all did not pass.

A clarification is indeed called for. Thank you for this chance.
