Power of the people really was what we had in Edsa 1986.
But it is true a few of us were privileged to stand with the Aquinos, Salongas and Dioknos at Edsa from Sept. 23, 1972 and stayed there until Feb. 25, 1986.
Manong Johnny Ponce Enrile and Fidel V. Ramos were also there, but only from Feb. 22 to 25, 1986 did they finally stand on the right side of it, with the poignancy of a recantation. They were rescued by “the people” from being barbecued.
Ka Doro (Amando Doronila) in his Feb. 28 column (“Aquino’s attempt to revise Edsa revolt saga”) unkindly excluded the Aquinos from “the people.” He wrote: “We owe them [the people] for the restoration of democracy, not the Aquino family.” Sad, but it seems to be one way of becoming a guru today: Erase Ninoy, Cory and Butz.
When will local journalists stop sacrificing accuracy for effect?
