QC ‘Bistekvilles’ an insult to city

/ 12:01 AM February 14, 2014

In the Feb. 7 Inquirer issue, Metro section, we read this report: “SC stops QC housing tax, trash fee; ‘Bistek’ readies lawyers.” What particularly got our goat was the part about the “6 Bistekvilles” being planned to be constructed out of the “social housing taxes.” Collected for three years now from the perennially harassed real estate owners of Quezon City, these funds are earmarked to set up dwellings for squatters who have infested their properties like ineradicable vermin!

Not content with insulting the taxpayers’ intelligence, Mayor Herbert “Bistek” Bautista also wants to exalt and glorify himself at their expense! He is grabbing all the credit for a project funded, not by his own pocket, but by taxpayer money—obviously in aid of re-election. One does not have to be a rocket scientist to foresee those “Bistekvilles” becoming his core constituents. Whoever broached that idea to “Bistek” (if he has not shamelessly come up with it himself) should be haled to court for inflicting their idiocy on the taxpayers of Quezon City. To borrow the expletive of former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, “tamaan sana kayo ng kidlat!”
