Invisible amid crime surge
President Aquino should look around more closely. Every day, crimes are being reported and criminals are on the lose. It is as if nobody is in charge. Gone are the day when the Philippine National Police chief was hands-on in trying to solve criminality in our country. These days, crimes are addressed by letting the PNP spokesperson face the cameras.
That’s why nothing happens. The police are demoralized because they don’t see their leaders.
Crimes are now mere statistics. Last Jan. 8, a businesswoman was shot and killed while driving herself to office. Last Jan. 9 the grandson of Willie Nepomuceno was shot while buying a burger with his friends.
It’s not safe anymore to live in Metro Manila or any place in this country. It’s because you don’t see policemen in your neighborhood. What you see are MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority) personnel who don’t have any training in law enforcement and crime prevention. And yet we recruit policemen every year. Where are they?
Mr. President, please look for more hard-working generals who can do their job well. We don’t even know how the PNP chief or the head of the National Capital Region Police Office looks like. They just stay in their air-conditioned offices and don’t seem to care about the crime surge. Please help the people feel safe.
