Mitra still Pasay’s chief prosecutor

/ 09:14 PM January 26, 2014

Ramon Tulfo, in his Jan. 21 column, reported that Pasay City chief prosecutor Elmer Mitra has been replaced. The report is grossly erroneous. Mitra remains chief prosecutor of Pasay.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima’s order designating another prosecutor as acting city prosecutor refers only to the handling of a particular or specific case; it was never meant to replace the incumbent as head of that office. This practice is nothing new or extraordinary.

The justice secretary does this when she finds it necessary in the interest of justice to make such designation. It is unfair to insinuate any other reasons for such action.
