The testimony of Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez last Dec. 9 before the congressional oversight committee revealed what happened in his city in the aftermath of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (“Tacloban mayor sheds tears, blames Aquino,” Front Page, 12/10/13). The national government hardly helped the crippled local government of Tacloban. What a crying shame!
It also confirmed what CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Paula Hancocks said on Nov. 12 or 13, that there were no organized government search and rescue operations to save survivors caught under the rubble and debris. Sayang (what a tragedy), more lives—as many as hundreds—could have been saved. Cooper cited what he saw was done in the search and rescue operations in Japan after the tsunami in 2011.
