Skyway bus accident could have been avoided

/ 02:11 AM December 20, 2013

The tragic accident at the SLEx (South Luzon Expressway) Skyway last Dec. 16 could have been avoided if only there was proper enforcement of traffic rules in the SLEx system.

As it is, SLEx management talks about instituting traffic regulations, yet there is absolutely no enforcement. I take the SLEx almost every day, but most of the time, when I maintain my speed within limits, buses whiz past me, and yet they are supposed to be allowed a lower speed limit. And despite the near-exorbitant toll charges, one can hardly see any enforcer around—both on the Skyway and the regular highway. Many times, I see trucks traveling on the lane clearly marked “Bawal ang bus at truck dito (Bus and trucks are not allowed on this lane),” and speeding at that. Did I see any enforcer apprehending any of them? Of course not!
