Timely editorial on partisan bishop

The June 13 editorial (“Political bishop”) of the No. 1 newspaper in the Philippines on Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos was very timely.

The Church’s deafening silence on the Arroyo administration’s corruption was disappointing, to say the least. Not a word was heard from the Catholic Church, much less from Bishop Pueblos, on the NBN-ZTE deal, “Hello Garci” tapes, NorthRail and other scandals.

The Catholic Church’s strong opposition to the RH bill is completely the opposite of its sickening indifference to the corruption of the Arroyo regime.

As a Catholic myself, I am still hopeful that the Catholic hierarchy will change its political views.
