QC lamppost project ‘grossly disadvantageous’

I was happy when I heard about the plan of the Quezon City government to change existing street lamps to LED.

Of late, however, I noticed that the new lampposts and concrete foundations were erected beside the old lampposts and concrete foundations around the Quezon Memorial Circle. All the while I thought that only the lamps were to be replaced because the old lampposts appear to be just about the same height, stronger and of a better design than the ones recently put up.

As a taxpayer of Quezon City, I believe that it was unnecessary to replace the lampposts and the concrete foundations as the project becomes uneconomical and grossly disadvantageous to the government and the taxpayers. I suggest that the Commission on Audit and the Ombudsman look into this matter.

Incidentally, what do they intend to do with the old lampposts and the concrete foundations? Is there any plan to recycle them? This also brings to mind what the contractors have done about portions of the pedestrian overpass removed from the corner of Sgt. Rivera Street and Quezon Avenue during the construction of the underpass. Should it not have been recycled and put back?
