The planned P250-million makeover of Roxas Boulevard for the forthcoming World Economic Forum on East Asia in 2014 and the Asia Pacific Economic Forum in 2015 is long overdue and a shot in the arm for Philippine tourism.
However, Gil Puyat Extension (Buendia), from Roxas Boulevard to Taft Avenue, leading to the Makati Business District, should also be spruced up and not totally ignored.
If possible, the stretch should be widened because of the congestion caused by motorists and pedestrians competing for a limited space, day in and day out.
Additional street lights on both sides of Gil Puyat Avenue should also be installed and the old ones replaced for added security, especially at nighttime.
More flowering trees should be planted to beautify the center island.
Let’s put our best foot forward for these twin events and welcome our foreign guests to a new, better and invigorating Metro Manila.
