Root cause of rotten political system

We, the Lay Society of St. Arnold Janssen, stand for good governance in the tradition of St. Arnold Janssen, the founder of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), Sisters of the Holy Spirit (SSPS) and Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (Pink Sisters) who, through their educational institutions, parish work and other missionary efforts have helped in building God’s kingdom in the Philippines since 1909.

We fully support the immediate and total abolition of the pork barrel.

We believe that the pork barrel is a root cause of our rotten political system as it is a major source of corruption and failure of governance.

Politicians corrupt the electoral process by buying votes and expect to recover the cost of vote-buying from their pork barrel allocations and other bribes.

No wonder we have political  dynasties; politicians want to protect their corrupt business and pass it on from generation to generation.

Government should be about public service and government officials should be true servants of the people.

We will achieve good government only when politicians run with the sole objective of serving the people.
