Not only a consolation but also food for thought

This is my reaction to Conrado de  Quiros’ column titled “Going out with a bang” (Inquirer, 7/2/13). The saying, “angels in our nature, demons in our nature, calming influences, dispiriting  influences,” might offer consolation to former Rep. Benjo Benaldo and food for thought to the writer.

I have always been a serious practitioner of compassion as is everybody else. I would like for the former legislator to mull over this thought: “Think of what you have rather than what you lack. Of the things you have, select the best and then reflect how eagerly you would have sought them if you did not have them.”—Marcus Aurelius.

To De Quiros, I offer my admiration—his talent to put humorous flavor to what otherwise is a near tragedy is fascinating.
