This refers to the news item titled “General in Morong 43 arrest for key post in W. Visayas—sources” (Inquirer.net, 7/4/13). I think the article does not give justice to Brig. Gen. Aurelio Baladad. As a long time resident of Barangay Antipolo, Laguna, Rizal, I know him as a hardworking, passionate military officer.
The allegations of his involvement in the Morong 43 case precisely continue to be just allegations that have never been proven. He would not have been given a new and bigger responsibility if he were not equal to such a task. Also, some of the Morong 43 members admitted being members of the New People’s Army and have since turned a new leaf. The rest, if they were not NPAs, why did they go back to the movement? I believe the Morong 43 disguised themselves as ordinary health workers. Their going back to the mountains to join their comrades proves this.
Let us not prejudge the good general. He has done more than what has been expected of him as an officer and a gentleman. No less than President Aquino has put his trust in him, and Brigadier General Baladad continues to serve our people and the Armed Forces of the Philippines with dedication.
To Brigadier General Baladad, carry on, Sir. Let no storm stop you from doing your job well.
