Get the protein you need from healthy, vegan diet

01:18 AM July 08, 2013

This is in reaction to the article “Should you go vegetarian or ‘flexitarian’?” (Lifestyle, Inquirer, 7/2/13).

People can get all the protein they need—without all the saturated fat and cholesterol—from tokwa, nuts, beans, whole grains, mock meats and other vegan foods. A plant-based diet is the kindest, healthiest option, and that’s why so many vegans are “sprouting up” in the Philippines and around the world. Many popular celebrities, including Geneva Cruz, Isabel Roces and Amanda Griffin Jacob stay fit and slim by eating nutritious vegetarian meals.

Anyone who wants to improve their health and help animals and the environment can call People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for a free vegetarian starter kit. That’s how I got started.—EDWINA BAIER, edwina.baier@gmail.com
