I read Conrado de Quiros’ column titled “Have a heart” (Inquirer, 5/23/13). Why is he so mad at Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago? What’s wrong with the senator’s advice to the new senators?
It is incumbent upon them to study before the session begins in July. Our Constitution states public service is a public trust. They owe it to the people who voted for them to be the best that they can be. Senator Santiago is one of the best persons to give them some guidance because of her exemplary work in all three branches of the government. She is also a Magsaysay awardee for her fight against corruption.
Besides, a reporter had asked the senator to give her advice to the new senators; it was not unsolicited!
I cannot understand where De Quiros’ is coming from. His anger is unjustified and baseless. I wonder what triggered his wrath. Maybe he is just a messenger, and his message is driven by somebody else’s bitterness.
